Orangutans Hold On to Take Game 1

The Colby Pool Sharks scored 5 goals late in the 3rd period but could not complete the comeback as the Fighting Orangutans hang on to take game 1 of the 2023 Finck Cup Finals.

The Fighting Orangutans looked to be in control early, taking a 4-1 lead after the 1st period, with some stellar goaltending from Josh Udall frustrating the Sharks.  After the teams traded a goal each in the 2nd period the O's scored early in the 3rd period to take a 6-2 lead.

The Sharks cut the lead to 6-3 with 8:35 left in the 3rd, but the Orangutans answered with 3 straight goals in 92 seconds for a 9-3 lead with 6:32 remaining to seemingly put the game out of reach. The Sharks disagreed, reeling off 5 straight goals to cut the lead to 9-8 with 1 minute to go, but the O's hung on to take game 1 of the finals.

Glen Holmes lead the way for the Orangutans, scoring 4 goals. Mitch Broussard added 2 goals and Jesse Magaevey, Jasper Goodwin and Bryce Mayea also scored.  Josh Udall made a number of key saves for the win.

Andrew MacNeil and Gavin Quigley scored 2 goals each for the Sharks. Ryan Morris, Sanchez Clark, Brett MacNeil and Chris Mallette added singles and Brandon Deveaux played well for the Sharks, keeping them in the game.
